Canada’s music publishers welcome Creative Export Strategy based on equal access; will work with government to ensure funding allows global competitiveness, creates jobs and opportunities at home so sector can thriveJun 26 2018

TORONTO, JUNE 26—Margaret McGuffin, executive director of the Canadian Music Publishers Association, made a statement today following the announcement of Canada’s first Creative Export Strategy.

“Canada’s music publishers applaud Canadian Heritage Minister Melanie Joly for introducing Canada’s first Creative Export Strategy. Our sector, made up of small and medium-sized enterprises, is export-oriented and driven to innovate in an ever-evolving digital and global landscape. Two-thirds of our sector’s revenue come from foreign sources and we welcome the potential for the government’s strategy to help us expand market access abroad. We will work with the government to ensure our members remain competitive globally while creating jobs and opportunities at home.

Equal access to funding in the strategy is especially critical for our growing sector to continue to thrive. We look forward to seeing the details of the strategy in the coming weeks.”
