Canadian Foundations & Funding Bodies for the Arts
Canadian Heritage is a federal government body that promotes an environment in which all Canadians take full advantage of dynamic cultural experiences, celebrating our history and heritage, and participating in building creative communities. We see a Canada that invests in the future by supporting the arts, our two official languages and our athletes: A Canada that is confident in a world of choice, at the forefront of the creative economy and a leader in the digital world.
The Canadian Heritage Portfolio includes the Department, four departmental agencies, ten Crown corporations and one administrative tribunal.
As a private non-profit organization, the Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Records (FACTOR) is dedicated to providing assistance toward the growth and development of the Canadian music industry. The foundation administers contributions from private radio broadcasters as well as two components of the Department of Canadian Heritage’s Canada Music Fund.
The Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC) is an agency of the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport and is the central catalyst for the province’s cultural media cluster including book publishing, film and television, interactive digital media, magazine publishing and music industries.
The SOCAN Foundation, founded in 1992, is dedicated to fostering Canadian music creation and promoting a better understanding of the role of music creators in today’s society.
The SOCAN Foundation is an independent organization guided by its own board of directors. The board, which consists of songwriters, composers and music publishers, reflects popular music and concert music genres as well as the geographic and linguistic regions of Canada.
