Canadian Music Café brings Canada’s Hottest Music to the Toronto International Film Festival ®Aug 24 2005

Chantal Kreviazuk, Steven Page, and Jully Black among artists to perform at exclusive venue in the heart of the leading international film festival

Canadian music will play a leading role in the 30th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) with the debut of the Canadian Music Café, a live showcase event that will feature daytime concerts by Canada’s leading and emerging artists. Performers include Buck 65, Ron Sexsmith, K’naan, and Jorane. Located at Sassafraz Café’s Jitterbug Perfume Lounge in Toronto’s Yorkville district, the Canadian Music Café will run from Sept. 13-15, with live performances between 2 – 5 p.m., and is exclusive to Festival industry delegates.

In addition to presenting new Canadian music, the Music Café will serve as a meeting place for filmmakers, film composers, music supervisors and media from around the world, and will encourage collaboration amongst all.

“From “Mrs. Robinson” in The Graduate to Hard Core Logo, we’ve seen the powerful role that music can play in film,” said Chris Teeter, Project Coordinator, Canadian Music Café. “The Canadian Music Café will celebrate the dynamic relationship between song and film by showcasing great Canadian music to some of the world’s most respected and influential tastemakers.”

“TIFF is thrilled to take part in this new initiative and to showcase Canadian musical talent to key industry decision-makers.” said Maxine Bailey, Director of Public Affairs for the Toronto International Film Festival Group. “We hope that after seeing the array of musical talent, international music supervisors and producers will consider using more Canadian music in their films.”

In partnership with the Toronto International Film Festival Group and in association with the Government of Canada, the Canadian Music Café is produced by the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA), Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN), Canadian Independent Record Production Association (CIRPA), and the Canadian Music Publishers Association (CMPA).
