Music Publishers Canada Announces 2023 Women in the Studio Producers

Music Publishers Canada (MPC) is thrilled to reveal the six participants of its 2023 Women in the Studio National Accelerator, which advances the career development of talented producer-songwriters from across Canada. First launched regionally in 2019 and expanded nationally in 2020, this is the fifth cohort the Accelerator is supporting.

The Women in the Studio Accelerator offers women, gender fluid, non-binary, and gender non-conforming participants a series of curated workshops, educational sessions, and networking opportunities with music industry leaders. The Accelerator is designed to provide the participants with opportunities for skills development and networking that they may otherwise be unable to access.

Music Publishers Canada is committed to changing the imbalance in the industry that exists for these producers and supporting a creative and technical community that grows each year. Participants will gain valuable insights from mentors and industry experts for the duration of the Accelerator starting with an in-person residency week that will include training, mentoring and networking sessions in Toronto during Canadian Music Week in June. This will be followed by additional opportunities and sessions through to December 2023. Programming will take place virtually and in person.

On behalf of the MPC member music publishers and all of our sponsors, partners, mentors, alumni and volunteers, I am excited to welcome this new cohort of producers into our Accelerator,” says Music Publishers Canada CEO Margaret McGuffin. "Our team is constantly looking around to see where we can foster positive change and we challenge all of our partners to do the same.

The Accelerator will focus on topics including technical skills, financial literacy, music business skills, and branding, and will offer opportunities for creative collaborations. Each producer, as a condition of acceptance, has also agreed to explore volunteer opportunities in their own community.
